Abstract

Background: Vitamins are organic compounds required as vital nutrients and vitamin deficiency is a venturesome condition for human body.Vitamin D deficiency is a world-wide epidemic and it’s widespread deficiency is a concern in Middle East countries. The major cause of vitamin D deficiency in many countries is the lack of sunexposure as a result of cultural norms of covering.

The aim of this study was to determine the Yazd high school students’ knowledge, attitude and practice towards vitamin D effects on human health.

Methods: A self-administered, structured, questionnaire, researcher made was conducted to investigate knowledge, attitude and practice of high school students. The questionnaires were given to 312 students (153boys and 159 girls) of 8 Yazd high schools. We used SPSS software and Paired t-test, ANOVA and chi2 test for analyzing the data.

Result: Of total participants, 49% were boys and 51% were girls. This study showed that among the 312 cases studied, 2.2% had good knowledge and 39.4% had average knowledge about vitamin D effects on human health. 21.5% of the cases had good attitude and 18.8% of them had goodpractice. Mean knowledge score was 15.11+- 4.83 of 31, mean attitude score was 18.94+-3.32 out of 28 scoreand, and mean practice score on vitamin D effects on human health was 13.69 +-2.71 of 20. There wasn’t a significant difference between knowledge and attitude among girls and boys but boys practice was better than girls and there was a significant difference in this case.

Conclusion:Lack of knowledge, attitude and practice could endanger people's health so developing some training programs seems to be necessary.

Abstract

Abstract Introduction: oral and dental health is part of general health and is a determining factor for improvement of quality of life. The aim of the present investigation was to determine the relationship of oral health literacy and oral hygiene self-efficacy with self-reported oral and dental health in students. Methods: This was a cross sectional correlational study. Based on kukaran formula for sample size calculation and using categorical random sampling method, 281 students of Ardakan University were selected to participate in this study. Data was collected by oral health literacy questionnaire, oral hygiene self-efficacy, and self-reported dental and oral health scale. Pearson’s correlation test and stepwise regression analysis were applied to analyze the data. Results: Both two dimensions numeracy (r = 47 p< 0.01) and reading comprehension (r = 56 p< 0.01) of oral health and both two dimensions brush self-efficacy (r =60 p< 0.01) and floss self-efficacy (r = 45 p < 0.01) were significantly correlated with self-reported oral and dental health in students. The results of stepwise regression analysis showed that floss self-efficacy (R = 59), reading comprehension (R = 71), numeracy (R = 73), and brush self-efficacy (R = 74) predicted the oral and dental health. In general, all these variables predicted 55% of oral and dental health variance (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Oral health literacy and oral hygiene self-efficacy have a key role in the prediction of oral and dental health and given that through enough education we can improve the oral health literacy skills or oral health self-efficacy to improve the oral and dental health of the society.

Abstract

Introduction: Head lice infection is a global health problem with a long history that led to physical, psychological and social complications which is most common between the ages of 6-11years. Regarding lack of studies in the area this study was performed to determine the prevalence of Pediculus capitis in primary school children and its preventive behaviors determinants based on Health Belief Model in Their Mothers in Hashtgerd, 2012.

Methods: The analytical cross-sectional study carried out on 372 primary school students and their mothers in Hashtgerd. Data was collected by examining the student's heads and a questionnaire which was completed by their mothers and was analyzed by SPSS-18, using Indices of central tendency and dispersion, independent t-test, Pearson correlation ratio, linear regression, and ANOVA.

Results: The prevalence of Pediculus capitis was 6.4 percent. Prevalence of head lice was significantly higher in girl students (8.6%) versus boys (0.5%) (P<0.001). There was a positive significant correlation between preventive behaviors and perceived severity, perceived benefits, and self-efficacy (P<0.05). Among preventive behaviors, cooperation of mothers with health care providers to prevent lice had the lowest frequency. Based on regression analysis, HBM constructs predicted 10.7% of variance in preventive behaviors and self-efficacy was the only statistically significant predictor of behavior (β=0.048).

Conclusion: Regarding meaningful prevalence of Pediculus capitis especially among female students, HBM-based educational programs is recommended to enhance preventive behaviors of head lice in students, parents, and school staff with an emphasize on mothers self- efficacy and also necessity of mothers cooperation with health care providers to prevent lice.

Abstract

Introduction: Parenting is a complex activity, which includes special procedures and behaviors that affect the child's growth. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of educational intervention based on the health action process approach on the parenting skills of girl students’ mothers in Mashhad.
Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study conducted on 100 mothers (50test and 50control), who had 10-13 year-old girls. Mothers were selected using cluster sampling method. Data were collected by a questionnaire designed based on the health action process approach. The questionnaire also contained the demographic questions and its validity and reliable were completed before and 2months after the intervention. After completing the questionnaires, data were analyzed by SPSS 16 and descriptive (frequency, percentage, mean, and SD) and analytical tests (Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon) at the significance level of 0.05.
Results: The Chi-square test showed no statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of family size, mothers' age category, level of education, and job. The Mann-Whitney test showed that significant difference existed between the experimental and control groups before intervention) P=0.01Z=2.57( only with regard to action planning. Moreover, two months after the intervention, significant differences were observed between the two groups in all constructs.
Conclusion: According to the results, the educational intervention based on the structures of the health action process approach can have a positive impact on mother's parenting skills.

Abstract

Introduction: Happiness is one of the most effective factors in economic, cultural, social, and political development in a society that reduces family problems, divorce, increased academic achievement, job engagement, and production. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and happiness variables with some demographic variables among a group of students.
Method: This cross-sectional study was performed on 371 students from Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences who met the inclusion criteria and selected by simple random sampling method in 2018-2019. The data were collected using Oxford Happiness Inventory (OHI) and General Self-efficacy Scale (GSE). Data analysis was performed by SPSS23 using student t-test, one way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation tests.
Result: The mean age of the subjects was 22.23 ±2.95 years, the mean score of happiness was 28.65 ±14.81, and the mean score of self-efficacy was 60.5 ± 9.44. The variables of age, sex, and education were significantly associated with happiness (P <0.05). Self-efficacy was also significantly associated with age, sex, marital status, and educational level (P <0.05).
Conclusion: Some demographic variables are effective in happiness and self-efficacy in students. In order to promote mental health and the importance of happiness in students, it is recommended to assess these variables, and then take appropriate planning strategy.

Methods: The present qualitative study aims to discover the effective factors and in-depth interviews were used as data collection tools. The researcher interviewed the participants working in Farhangian University who were purposefully selected. After fully transcribing the interviews and extracting the key sentences, 27 theoretical saturations were obtained in the interview and continued until interview 29 for more assurance. Data analysis was performed by content analysis method and coding method. To evaluate the validity of the study, the criteria of acceptability, transferability, and verification and for the reliability of the study, the reliability of the codings were evaluated and approved.
Results: The findings indicate that 49 primary codes were classified into 15 sub-categories and 6 main categories, including cultural norms, economic events, effective governance, legal guarantee, sociability, and digital lifestyle.
